STAY IN THE MOMENT

Coach K (Duke) says “basketball favors the continuous thinker and the positive thinker.”

There may be no statement about basketball that is more poignant.  The most successful players do not take possessions off or even seconds off during a game.  These players are always in the present – their past mistakes are not dwelt upon, and the future is not considered because they can only control what is happening now – they stay in the moment!

For more consistent offensive flow, players cannot take a possession or even seconds off.

As the ball is brought up the floor, all players should be moving into what they should be doing – whether that is filling a lane, setting a screen, getting into position for a play or just getting open. They are in the moment.  These players are not wasting time or mental energy worrying about the past; instead, they are doing what they are supposed to be doing – helping their teammates to be successful.
