PUSHING BEYOND YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Although I’m not a rock climber, I am certainly impressed with their mental toughness.  The philosophy of most rock climbers is basically that of ‘self-competition.’  In other words, they climb the mountain to push themselves to the upmost of their ability, not neccessarily to accomplish some particular feat.  They challenege themselves, not the mountain.

Competition in basketball should be the same.  It should be about playing to the upmost of your ability and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone, not just beating the opponent.  Winning or losing should always be secondary to your goal of playing to the absolute best of your ability.
