Why is shot selection so important?

I often preach on the importance of shot selection and how a shot that is contested, off-balance, or maybe just outside of your range hurts your team. A bad shot is usually the first pass for your opponent’s fast break.

Against a slower or less talented team it may not be such a big deal, but you won't be able to beat many good teams taking bad shots.
