Before the Bethlehem game, I spoke to the team about the Muhammad Ali & Ernie Terrell fight in 1967 and how the fight wasn’t about money or a championship in as much as it was about Ali demanding respect. Ali would shout “what’s my name?” before each punch as he beat Terrell into total submission.
At the beginning of last night’s game, when the ref’s called the coaches & captains together for the pregame meeting, one of the Freeport captains made a comment along the lines of: “we didn't know who ya'll were or where ya'll were from.”
Much like Ali, we earned some respect last night. And I don’t think they will have any trouble remembering who we are.
