Most players of adequate skill can make passes around the perimeter of a team’s defense as this usually only involves recognizing the movement of a teammate to get open, and that teammate’s defender.
However, to pass the ball into the heart of the defense, with timing and accuracy, requires much more skill and reading. These “passes of significance”, which often lead to scores, signify the great passer, and are necessary if teams are to be successful.
