Early in a season, one of the greatest challenges a coach has is getting players to play the game the way he wants them to, and execute the way he has taught and drilled them to.
A player will often struggle to execute properly (execution is doing what you are suppose to do, when you are supposed to do it, and with the greatest effort possible) not because of a lack of effort, but because they just don’t understand “why” they are suppose to do something a particular way.
To become a better player, you can’t be robotic and just follow orders without “thinking’ about what you are trying to accomplish. Coaches absolutely love players that seek to understand why a skill or play needs to be executed a particular way.
Always ask why, and you will become a better player.
