As most coaches usually do the last week or so before the season starts, I’ve been scouting video and trying to look at our upcoming match-ups.
Being that two of the first three games we play on opening weekend are against teams we’ve never faced before, it’s tough to do any real scouting. However, I re-watched the first half of our game against Aletheia in the Final Four this past season and made the following observations:
Although this was one of our uglier games of the season (offensively), it was interesting to see some comparisons and how we matched up.
Both teams shot 35% from the field, we were 11 of 31 (35.4%) while Aletheia was only 5 of 14 (35.7%). We had twice as many shot opportunities (and makes) as they did.
Another interesting fact, with Aletheia’s size, they are clearly an inside team, yet we only allowed them to take 7 of their 14 shot attempts inside the paint, while they allowed us to take 17 of our 31 shots inside.
Another even more interesting fact, with Aletheia being such a big team inside, they only had 2 offensive rebounds the entire first half compared to our 8.
Our defensive pressure forced them into 15 turnovers in the first half and they only had 1 steal.
The only thing we know for certain about Aletheia this season is that they return everyone including All-Conference selection Saige Pernie (sr.) and that they have a new coach.
Hmm…
